Load Management Program
This program was developed to comply with state energy efficiency goals. The Texas Legislature passed the Texas Electric Choice Act in 1999, which restructured the state’s electric utility industry. Specifically, the law calls for each investor-owned utility to meet a goal of 10% reduction in its growth in system demand annually through savings achieved by energy efficiency programs.
The Load Management program is designed to reduce kW use during peak demand periods. Service providers will identify "Curtailable Load" of Oncor customers and will commit to curtailing such load at the request of Oncor. During emergency circumstances, Oncor will request that facilities of participating customers be curtailed in order to improve system reliability. Participating customers must have a minimum of 750 kW in billable demand to be eligible for the program. Oncor will pay service providers for verified demand savings resulting from the curtailment requested by Oncor pursuant to the program.
