Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What can Oncor do for my business?

A: Our experts are keenly aware of the ever-changing economic landscape and make it a point to know the intricate details about each and every community, including the current infrastructure, business climate, potential environmental issues and labor data. We recognize these issues are instrumental when making a site location decision, and our knowledge, combined with your vision, can turn your business plan into a reality. Contact Terry Preuninger to learn more about how Oncor can serve as a partner and resource during this exciting time in your company’s history.

Q: Do you help companies looking at sites outside of the Oncor service area?

A: Since we cover about one-third of the state’s geographical area, we stay very busy ensuring we have the most updated information about more than 400 communities we serve throughout Texas. While we focus mainly on site locations within our service area, we are happy to share information about other organizations, should your site selection searches fall outside of the Oncor service area.

Q: We’re from up North and still aren’t quite sure what it means when people talk about Texas’ “competitive” electricity market. Can you help explain what Oncor does?

A: Oncor builds, operates and maintains infrastructure -- the poles, wires, meters and other electrical equipment -- used to deliver electricity from power plants to more than 3 million homes and businesses. Oncor serves a population of approximately 7 million, but it’s not the company to which they pay their electric bill, nor does Oncor produce or generate electricity. Oncor delivers electricity and builds and maintains power lines. Think of Oncor like FedEx or UPS - we deliver the electricity, but you buy it from someone else.

Oncor is focused on ensuring that electricity is delivered safely and reliably. We strive to provide superior service to our electricity consumers through continual investment in new equipment, rebuilding and upgrading our transmission and distribution system.

Because most of Texas’ electric market is competitive, residential customers may choose their Retail Electric Provider (REP) and their plan. Customers get the same reliable delivery service from Oncor no matter which REP they pick.

Different REPs and plans are appropriate for different customers – it’s important that you pick a REP and electric plan that are best for you and your company.
